From 1869 to 1870 he was Deputy Marshal of the Supreme Court.〔 In 1873 he married Mary Louisa Innocentia Northrop, daughter of the Confederate General Lucius Bellinger Northrop, who was at West Point during the time Edgar Poe attended the Military Academy.〔Didier, Eugene L.
